Goat sacrificed in Nepal by chaat seller for India’s Cricket World Cup win

Did Team India win the world cup Saturday because of the gritty batting by captain M.S. Dhoni or persistently good performance of Yuvraj Singh or the marvellous mentoring by coach Gary Kirsten?
The answer could be all of these plus an X factor from Nepal: the goat  sacrificed by chaat seller Santaram Jaiswal at the altar of power goddess Bhagwati to ensure the Cup went to the Men in Blue.
Jaiswal arrived in Tansen, the main town in the hilly district of Palpa, rom India’s Gorakhpur city almost 30 years ago to ply his trade: sell chaat from push carts.
An ardent cricket fan, the Indian pledged he would sacrifice a goat at the altar of the Hindu goddess if India triumphed over Sri Lanka in the final match Saturday.
On Sunday, after his wish came true, not only did the vendor keep his pledge but also gave away snacks worth NRS 9,000 free as thanksgiving, the Kathmandu Post daily reported Monday.
The final also saw Nepal’s electricity authorities outplay themselves with no load-shedding in the power-starved country Saturday so that people could watch the nail-biting contest at a time Nepal faces 14 hours of power outage daily.
It also made the Nepali Congress, one of the oldest parties in Nepal, put off a major meeting of office-bearers so that they could watch, without any distractions, India defeat Sri Lanka.
